The Usual Problems

That's actually good news — fixing flashing costs a lot less than swapping the whole unit.

Foggy glass. If your double-pane skylight has cloudiness or moisture trapped between the layers, the insulating seal has cracked. The thermal performance is shot and it looks awful.

Cracked pane. Hail strikes, falling branches, age-related stress. This usually means replacement rather than repair.

Interior condensation. Sometimes what looks like a leak is actually moisture forming on the inside surface and dripping down. That's typically a ventilation or insulation issue in the attic, not a problem with the skylight per se.

Fix It or Replace It?

Depends on age and what's actually broken:

Skylight under 15 years old and water's getting in around it but not through it? Reflashing and resealing usually handles it. Way cheaper than a new unit.

Skylight itself is the problem — busted seals, warped frame, ancient single-pane design from the 90s? Replacement is the smarter investment. Today's skylights are dramatically better at staying dry and insulating than what went on roofs a couple decades ago.
